high heeled truth

I am baffled by how many women walk around in high heels without staggering, limping, or grimacing in pain. They seem to feel as good as they look, even after several hours in the confinement of them. Have these women just mastered the poker face of high heeled fashion, and are simply grinning and bearing it? If so, it is an art I have not mastered. The first twenty minutes in heels is tolerable, but beyond that, I find myself holding my breath longer and clenching my teeth harder with each passing step. Usually by the third hour in high heels, I am holding them in my hand and walking bare footed, if I am walking at all. To me, heels are small torture chambers designed to punish the natural shape of a foot, and if it weren't for the relief of the flip-flops I come home to, I would not sign myself up for the suffering of this feminine and fashionable footwear. I need some honesty here. Are you all just good actors, or do high heels not cause you this much grief?

I just recently (like 2 years ago) learned how to walk in heels. Before that I was a flat or wedge shoe wearing girl. It all depends on the heel, and how much walking I have to do in them. I have a brown pair that KILL my feet if I am in them longer than 5 minutes. But my black pair I could wear all day long.

I couldn't have said it better Amy. High heels must be for those other girls. Not girls like me.

This is why I only own a few pairs of high heels. In fact, I purchased a pair of stilettos recently and they hurt so bad I swore would never wear them again. My puppy must have read my mind because she proceeded to tear them apart so they were no longer wearable.

I also watched a show around Oscar time that said that celebrities get silicone injections into the balls of their feet so they can walk comfortably down the red carpet. Yup..I think you got it just right.

OK, I have to add my voice to the high heel talk. I have seen these girls walking around with jeans and cute stilettos and wondered if I could join the club. So I succumbed and bought some to wear with jeans. I made it about 5 steps out of our house and was in pain. I don't know how they do it? Maybe its because I was carrying a child...nonetheless, owie! So I compromised...a pair of funky medium heeled wedges...problem solved. I still prefer my flip flops though.

I am baffled that teenagers are wearing them at least to church. I would have never thought to and they look like they have been wearing them for years! Crazy girls!
